Welcome to Geopolis

Hello again readers!

After a long absence, Geopolis will resume publication — with a new focus. Rather than the day-to-day of geopolitics, I’ll be writing about what really gets me going: the history behind the headlines.

What you can expect:

  1. Digestible articles in series that focus on the 19th and 20th century events, ideas, and personalities that set the stage for our modern world, with a particular eye to Asia.

  2. Interviews with scholars, analysts, and participants that dive deeper and update the historical narrative to the present moment.

  3. Answers to questions and discussions of topics that most interest you, submitted via email or substack. Curious about how civilians survived carpet bombings? How Spam became a staple food in much of East Asia? What happened to all the eunuchs running around Qing China? Shoot me a note.
